Rebuttal Argument free essay sample
If a kid say they are bored something needs to be done so that they do not find something to do themselves. Most times kids find things to do themselves not knowing whether something is right or wrong, therefore getting them into trouble. Setting a curfew will keep a kid couped up in the room and decide they wanna try to play a game that is meant for outside. Well the problem with that is that the kid is on the inside. So by them playing in the house they will either hurt themselves on some furniture or break something inside the house if not both. Some parents like to set curfews but they may still be at work. So the kids will try to clock their parents and figure out what time they get home so that they will be home before their parents do. That being said some kids would get into trouble cause their parents might be coming home early. Sneaking out is one of the biggest things with this generation. Kids and teens believe they can out smart their parents, therefore they will try and devise a plan to sneak out of the house. As said by an anonymous user on debate. org ââ¬Å"Curfews wont help because teenagers will find another way, like when I was younger I always had a curfew but I remember always trying to find a way to sneek out so I could hang out with my friends. So in my opinion curfews dont help because teens will just find another way. â⬠There are teens out their who want to voice their opinion and show that a curfew would be completely pointless because there are tactics to get around curfews. My last point is my biggest point and it is about the summer. It is the end of the school year and the kids are ready to wind down and enjoy their summer to the fullest. Although school is out for the summer the curfew that is in effect is set year round. With a curfew during the summer, it will cut kids days short. This just means they can not do as much as they want to do in their day. There are some kids who actually plan out their summer and if some kids do not ge their way they will be upset. A user by the name of Zaradi made a good point on debate. org and this person stated ââ¬Å"For one, curfews only prevent crime or criminal activity during the night. A teenager, presuming that teenager obeyed the curfew, could still get in plenty of trouble during the day. For two, any teenager whos actively looking for trouble or to break the law isnt going to let something as silly as a curfew stop them. If theyre going to break the law, what does it matter if they do it during curfew? Its just another law that they broke. If they dont care about breaking one law, presumably one of more significance than curfew, then what issues would they have of breaking it during curfew? With this statement it just shows that just because you set a curfew does not mean the kids will not find a way to go around the curfew or just blatantly disobey it to the fullest. Overall curefews do not do much. Based on statistics, curfews actually only punish 0. 5% of all teens whereas the other 99. 5% are actually law bidding teens. Also parents believe that 43% of juveniles commit crimes when the true number is actually 13%. One last statistic that I want to point out is that 23% of all cities with curfews report that any aspect of teens breaking curfew has made additional cost for police department.
